S/S 2011 Pleats

Derek Lam                                                      Lanvin

Its forecasted that a key trend from the S/S 2011 shows is pleats. Pleats are usually associated with school skirts, or at least when I was younger but that is no more, pleating is a simple technique which can emphasise the fabrics and provide detail to an otherwise boring dress. A trend which will easily be adapted to the high street and one which I happen to love. My favourite pieces from Lanvin and Derek Lam are shown above and there are already similar items available. Topshop, ahead of the game as usual, are already selling pleated items and great ones at that!

Double Pleat Dress by Rare** at Topshop.
                                                     £39 Sizes 6-14
This dress is an excellent example of how pleats can work to create an interesting detail to an item. I love this, its colour is beautiful and it would look great kept simple and teamed with black tights and black heels and a edgey, bikerish clutch or bag.

Topshop pleated calf length skirt (navy)
                                                   £38 Sizes 6-16
Again another great item especially as hem lines are lowered at the moment. Its available in navy and burgundy and I think you can really play with what you team it with. I'd wear this with moccasins, a belt and baggy blouse.
